After years of searching for a church or spiritual community where I truly fit in, I realized something—I’ve always been a little different. I’m the guy who shows up to church in blue jeans and a T-shirt. Maybe that’s why I never quite felt like I belonged anywhere. But today, I’m finally making good on a long-overdue promise.

Full disclosure: I’m the least likely person you’d expect to become a spiritual leader. I’m not an ordained minister. I dropped out of college—twice. In the past ten years, I’ve probably had around fourteen jobs. But you know what? That’s okay. God has a way of using ordinary, down-to-earth people to do extraordinary things.

My Why
When I was twelve, my mom was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Doctors told me, “Son, prepare yourself—she might not make it off the operating table.” At that point, I wasn’t much of a believer. But I had heard stories of a God who performs miracles.

Desperate and afraid, I ran to the hospital’s prayer room, fell to the floor, and cried out:

“God, if You’re real, let’s make a deal. Save my mom, and You’ve got me for life. Do whatever You want with me—take my life in exchange for hers.”

Against all odds, my mom made it through that night—and lived another ten years. Because of cancer, she lost her vocal cords permanently, but her spirit remained strong.

So, I have two promises to keep:

1. To spend my life honoring the Creator who saved my mom that day.
   
   

2. To be a voice for the mother who no longer has one.
